Located at the entrance to Camden’s inner harbor on the western side of Penobscot Bay, the Camden Yacht Club (CYC) is a vibrant, family oriented club.

Founded in 1906, CYC operates seasonally from May – October and is a well-known destination for down east cruisers. The Club prides itself on its customs and traditions, which originated with the grand age of steam yachts.

The CYC summer calendar is full of racing, cruising and social events for its members, as well as a very strong Junior Sailing Program that is open to members and non-members alike.  Our Junior Program has produced many fine racers who have gone on to success in college sailing and beyond.

Launch service is available to members and guests throughout the season. Although the Club has a limited supply of guest moorings and floats, visiting yachtsmen and yachtswomen from other Clubs are always welcome to visit our scenic harbor and enjoy our hospitality. Questions regarding CYC facilities can be directed to the Dockmaster.

Dear CYC Member,

I am writing this letter to bring you up to date on several "happenings" at the club.  First and foremost is that despite the awful weather we have experienced during June, the reviews we have received on our new Food Service provider, SALT, owned jointly by Mike Fisher and Katherine Morong, have been outstanding. Mike, Katherine and their crew have put together an outstanding lunch menu and even on these damp, dreary days, the club, with the fireplace ablaze, is a wonderful place to enjoy a delicious lunch.  Please come down and give it a try, you will be glad you did!

The 4th of July weekend is fast approaching and it is a special weekend at the Camden Yacht Club. On Friday evening, July 3rd, the club will be hosting a picnic with music provided, LIVE, by the Elmore Twist Band and Fireworks at 9PM.  The picnic begins at 5:30 PM and there are two (2) options for dinner:

1.  BYO everything and a grill will be provided; or

2.  Just BYO adult beverages only and leave the cooking to Mike, Katherine and their crew who have put together a great menu of hot crab dip, salads, burgers, dogs, etc.  You just order and pay cash for what you eat.  What could be simpler?

The July 3rd picnic and band will happen without regard to the weather.  The cost, to cover the band, is $10 per adult member and $5 per adult guest.  There is no charge for children.

On July 4th, CYC will host the Traditional 4th of July Dinner (a sit down) consisting of Salmon, N.Y. Strip Steak, Chicken Breast, or Farfale Alfredo - all accompanied by salads and dessert.  Cocktails begin at 6PM followed by the dinner.  The cost for the July 4th dinner is $32.  Call Elaine (236-7033) ASAP to reserve your spot for the July 4th dinner.  For last minute reservations, call Mike Fisher at 230-4088 - last minute reservations will be accepted.

The King of Spain (KOS) 2009 Trophy Series begins July 11.  The notice of race follows:

The first race of this (almost) world renowned series will be held on July 11th.  Skipper's meeting at 11 AM. First gun at 1:30 or so.  Any CYC member with a sailboat and some sort
of PHRF rating can sign up on the poster on the porch.

Sunshine and wind cannot evade us much longer.

Thinking ahead....  The next race is August 15th followed by a Lobster Bake for racers and all members. Mark your calendars.  We want to make these events inclusive for all at CYC. Sailing on the Bay, dinner at the Club, what could be better than that?

Following the July 11th, KOS Race, the club will host a BBQ.  The format will be a made to order picnic - very similar to the July 3rd event provided by SALT.  In other words, you only pay for what you eat so bring the whole crew and order what you want.  What could be easier?  Sign up for this BBQ is not required as the KOS Race and BBQ will be rescheduled in the very unlikely event of poor weather.

The Sunset Grille and Seminar series starts Wednesday, July 8th at 5PM.  Come down to the Club, BYO everything and hear a very interesting speaker at 7PM.  Our presenter for July 8th will be a returnee from last year.  Esperanza Stancioff, speaking on "Global Warming on the Gulf of Maine".  On Wednesday, July 15th, member Matt Simmons will speak on "Twilight on the Desert".

As you can see, there is much happening at the Camden Yacht Club during the first two weeks of July. Please come enjoy all the club has to offer as your officers, staff and many fellow members have been working hard to provide something for everyone.  I look forward to seeing all at the club in the coming weeks.
