July 29th
We have returning Matt Mountain of the Space Telescope Science Institute. Given we are in the 400 anniversary of when Galileo turned the first telescope to the sky, Matt will present a historical review of the impact of the telescope, of course using Hubble as pinnacle (so far) of what has been archived.

August 5th
We will have CYC member Jim McCully. Jim is the author of Beyond the Moon: A Conversational, Common Sense Guide to Understanding the Tides. Jim's presentation The Tides Explained In Plain English will emphasize the tides in the Gulf of Maine along with the general principles that create the myriad tidal patterns found around the globe.

August 12th
Lastly, Camden resident Greg Dorr will discuss his volunteer time in the Peace Corp in Malawi, Africa.

KITCHEN UPDATES:

Mike Fisher of Mike's Catering will do our concession this year. Mike is a seasoned veteran in the food service industry in this area. We have discussed several operational and food/menu changes and explored some new approaches for the upcoming season. Given notice, Mike will prepare box lunches for members who want to get lunch and go sailing. Please give him some reasonable advance notice and it will be billed to your account the same way it is done now for a sit down lunch.

The second phase of the kitchen floor replacement is nearing completion. Marc Lorraine of Lorraine Construction has done a great job. Marc will be installing additional ventilation in the dishwashing section of the kitchen to improve air flow and cooling from the ice machine and walk-in cooler compressors.

Thank you all. As you can see from the planned 2009 calendar, there are plenty of things to lend a helping hand with. We always need willing volunteers so contact Laney at the office to add your name to an event.
