The Women's Seamanship Class is planned for August 3-6. A four day, instructive and fun experience on the basics of sailing and water safety for women members of CYC. Two days of shore side instruction followed by an overnight at a nearby island, this promises to be just what the "first mate" ordered when the "captain" is snoozing or reading his book! Sue Conover or I can help with your questions.

And finally, each year we call out for volunteers, as I have already done above, for the many tasks that need to get done on the Club waterfront. The phrase, "If everyone lifts, there is no burden", comes to mind when I look at all that needs attention for the summer activities. Please consider offering your time- a lot or a little- it all adds up to be very helpful.

While there have been a few surprises this year, the Club's overall financial condition continues to be in line with expectations for the year. We had unbudgeted costs as the result of staff changes. We also had an unusually high number of deaths and resignations among the membership this year. At the same time, the high number of membership openings were filled from our waiting list, generating an unusually high total for initiation fees. The net result is that our cash position is more than adequate for this year's needs.

Your Membership Committee has been very busy this year processing applications and conducting interviews.

The club expects to have 25 new members in 2009. The Commodore has sent 18 invitations this year which have been accepted by the candidates. We have 5 candidates who have not met the requirement of meeting the required number of officers or whose interview has not been completed. We expect the membership process for 2009 to be completed by mid-summer which assures us a full membership for 2009.

At this time, as we are winding down the activities for 2009, we must begin thinking of building our waiting list for 2010 and beyond. We would like to suggest that if you have a candidate in mind to please pick up an application from Elaine, complete and return to Elaine.

As these new applications are returned, we will schedule interviews. Our committee objective will be to complete all interviews on the new applications this summer so that we can have a lengthy list of recommended candidates for the 2010 season.

Also don't forget that our bylaws provide for candidates not exceeding age 35 to join as a Junior member. A Junior member pays one-half the annual dues of a Regular member and a Junior member has the option of paying the initiation fee over a period of five years.

We wish to thank our committee members for the wonderful support they have given us this year in fulfilling the objective of having a full membership.
