Racing

J24 Racing
J24 races are held every Thursday evening from mid May until late September.   The fleet welcomes anyone who is interested in racing, experienced or not.  It is a great way for people to get out on the water, and the 12 to 14 boats have skill levels from world class to casual.  The J24s leave the dock at about 4 PM.  For information regarding the J24 racing, please contact the Fleet Captain, Eliza Haselton.

Camden Castine Race
The 2008 weekend series will be August 2-3. The Camden-Castine Race Committee will run starts for PHRF Classes A, B, C, D, Multi-Hull and Cruising Divisions.   For more information please go to Camden Castine Race Entry Forms .

WoodenBoat Series
The 2008 series will be held July 31 - August 2.  It includes the Castine Classic Yacht Race on Thursday,  the feeder race from Camden to Brooklin on Friday, and The Eggemoggin Reach Regatta on Saturday.  The fleet of classic wood racing and cruising boats is impressive and is the largest fleet to race out of Camden Harbor every summer.  The ERR fleet often includes over 90 boats varying in size from 25’ to 76’ with no two designs being the same.

CYC will again host the Wooden Boat Dinner for on Thursday evening, July 31st.  For information, please contact the CYC office at 236-7033.

King of Spain Race

The King of Spain Trophy is an impressive large silver cup, donated in memory of former CYC Regatta Committee Chairman, Dudley Wolfe.  Mr. Wolfe had been presented the trophy by Alphonse, King of Spain, for his 2nd place finish in the 1928 Transatlantic Race to Santander, Spain.  Dudley Wolfe’s sister, Mrs. Hind, donated the cup to Camden Yacht Club and designated that it be used as a perpetual award and, as such, a two-race series is held every summer for CYC member PHRF boats.

Dudley Wolfe was a member of the tragic 1939 American expedition which attempted to make the first ascent of the world's second-highest peak, K2, in the Himalayas.  Mr. Wolfe died in that attempt on K2 in what was a controversial situation, as he was not an experienced climber, and his body was recovered only recently.  In 2002, Dudley Wolfe’s remains were found by Jennifer Jordan and Jeff Rhoads who were on K2 producing a documentary “The Women of K2.” The irony is that Jennifer Jordan is a friend of CYC member, Tom Kiley, who won the King of Spain Trophy in 2005.

Camden Yacht Club maintains an active cruising fleet.  Member boats are found worldwide, but the majority enjoy the beautiful waters of the Maine Coast.  The CYC Summer Cruise is always a popular family event.  The 2007 dates are August 10-19.  Please refer to the CYC Calendar for specific details.
